African Art Pictures and Other African
Art
The choice of African art pictures open to you are as varied as the lives, people and
landscape of the continent itself. From South Africa’s table mountain to the souks of Morocco and everywhere in
between art flourishes and is extremely important to the people who reside in this beautiful part of the
globe.
If you take the art of Morocco for example there a number of artists who have no formal
training who make a great living from their artwork. These artists known as Sunday artists have found a place
within the Moroccan art world and are an important part of the make up of Morocco’s culture and lifestyle. They are
known for their vibrant and wonderful interpretations of scenes and landscapes since they came to prominence in the
1950’s.
Each individual region in fact every country even some times territories with them have
their own distinct identity and as such the art produced is unique and is indicative to the region.
The Importance of African Art Pictures
To Africans artwork is extremely important for example for Kenyans art is important as it
preserves the culture of the people and is an essential to communicate that way of life to the wider world. To buy
an African art picture is to help safeguard these traditions but at the same time allows you to be engaged in the
traditional rituals, to relive the struggles of the population or to understand important events such as birth,
death or a rites of passage.
I personally like the African art pictures of Ethiopia which has made a smooth transition
from the religious to the secular both stylistically and aesthetically. The African art pictures of Ethiopia are
rich in color and I believe they are alive with movement and people. These African art pictures often have a
extremely large number of people in them which seem to connect with the onlooker with their eyes even when they are
glancing to left or the right. The depiction of the eyes and the way the capture you is a unique style that truly
makes Ethiopian art pictures a great choice.
There are so many choices when considering African art pictures and it maybe extremely
difficult to try and choose from the art of west, east, south, north or even Central Africa. They all have their
own merits. They all tell their own story but what makes them different is how each individual region and artist
interprets his or her surroundings from the people, wildlife, landscape and culture and then uses the medium of
paint to bring their views to life for everyone to enjoy.
I have now brought many different African art pictures from several different communities
of Africa and it always amazes me how different regions can produce such contrasting art when capturing the same
theme such as death rites or birth. I have gained nothing but joy from my ever growing African art picture
collection. I believe to own African art is to experience a little bit of Africa everyday.
